Design flood estimation at ungauged catchments using index flood method and quantile regression technique: a case study for South East Australia

چکیده

Abstract Flood is one of the worst natural disasters, which causes damage billions dollars each year globally. To reduce flood damage, we need to estimate design floods accurately, are used in and operation water infrastructure. For gauged catchments, frequency analysis can be floods; however, for ungauged regional (RFFA) used. This paper compares two popular RFFA techniques, namely quantile regression technique (QRT) index method (IFM). A total 181 catchments selected this study from south-east Australia. Eight predictor variables develop prediction equations. It has been found that IFM outperforms QRT general. higher annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs), generally demonstrates a smaller estimation error than QRT; AEPs (e.g. 1 100), provides more accurate estimates. Design Flood Estimation in Ungauged Catchments: Quantile Regression Technique And Probabilistic Rational Method Compared

Estimation of design floods in ungauged catchments is frequently required in hydrological practice and is of great economic significance. The most commonly adopted methods for this task include the Probabilistic Rational Method, the U.S. Soil Conservation Service Method, the Index Flood Method and the U. S. Geological Survey Quantile Regression Technique. The Probabilistic Rational Method has b...

Topological and canonical kriging for design flood prediction in ungauged catchments: an improvement over a traditional regional regression approach?

In the United States, estimation of flood frequency quantiles at ungauged locations has been largely based on regional regression techniques that relate measurable catchment descriptors to flood quantiles. More recently, spatial interpolation techniques of point data have been shown to be effective for predicting streamflow statistics (i.e., flood flows and low-flow indices) in ungauged catchme...

Estimation of Runoff Peak Flow by El-Hames Empirical Method for Ungauged Catchments: A Case Study Iranshahr

In this paper, the El-Hames empirical method was used to determine the peak runoff flow in Iranshahr catchment. The El-Hames method is based on morphological parameters and SCS Curve Number of the studied area. The implementing was processed by collecting the required data including soil type and vegetation cover, land use maps, digital elevation model and satellite images from the associated i...

Prioritizing flood producing potential in ungauged watersheds using the AHP-VIKOR method (Case study: Haji-Bakhtiar Watershed, Ilam)

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Flood is one of the most complex and destructive natural phenomena that cause significant damage to agriculture, fisheries, housing, and infrastructure and significantly affects social and economic activities (Chang et al., 2008). The relationship between geomorphological and hydrological parameters makes it possible to predict floods in gauged basins and gen...

Volume-duration growth curves for flood estimation in permeable catchments

The volume and duration of groundwater discharge following extreme winter recharge events in permeable catchments can often be more disruptive than the peak discharge. An estimation procedure for annual maxima flood series in permeable catchments is extended to annual flood volumes for different durations. Growth factors for durations of 1 to 30 days and return periods of up to 250 years are de...
